Final thoughts

Leaving Anacortes we see swaths of gold and red leaves among evergreens that blanket the local landscape. Fallen fruit circles trunks of apple trees and store fronts post autumn hours. Cruising season has ended and we are headed home.

We thank you who have followed the blog and vicariously traveled with us. Joy is multiplied when shared; knowing we had family and friends who were on the journey in spirit added to our experience.

We end the adventure with so much gratitude: for health and wellbeing to make the trip, that our circumstances allow us to have a seaworthy vessel, for challenges that tested us but none so mountainous we couldn’t overcome them. We’re grateful for the boaters that shared local knowledge, for marina owners who subsist on a seasonal income and for the Coast Guard that keeps boaters safe.

Twenty years from now, you’ll be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the tradewinds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

(Usually misattributed to Mark Twain, the quote is from H.Jackson Brown’s mother. Moms always know best.)

  1. Hi Bob and Kim, I have loved living vicariously through your blog. The whole journey was awesome and I would love to do that kind of trip someday. Probably not likely, but it is a nice thought. Thank you for sharing all the wonderful pictures, thoughts, and the adventures! I hope you are home safely. Hope to see you in the near future. Hugs, Nancy
