Georgia Strait was calm the morning we crossed back to Vancouver Island. Whale watching boats zipped past us looking for Orcas the way frantic fans hunt popular Hollywood celebrities, while we had two off our bow giving us a private show.

Our brief stay in Ladysmith coincided with a lumberjack festival, showcasing new and old logging skills, a charming way to culminate time in Canada.
It’s always good to go home, and returning to US waters felt like the first part of our homecoming. Bill and Debbie joined us for a farewell cruise in the San Juans, with stops on San Juan, Lopez and Orcas. We ate in, dined out and the brothers collaborated on Merrill’s mac and cheese, comparing nuances of the recipe that’s part of so many Bessolo gatherings. Bill and Deb, thanks for carving out time to cruise with us!
Waking up in Anacortes, today we begin the task of unpacking, cleaning and putting the boat to bed for the winter.
