Squiggle, Lefty and Moonstar

Humpbacks frequenting waters off Northern Vancouver Island are named by identifying fluke marks by the researchers monitoring them. Though we’ve seen orcas, seals, sea otters, jelly fish (moon and lions mane) and bald eagles, we’ve spotted no humpbacks yet.

Crossed from Port McNeill to Allison Harbor yesterday. Up early this morning for a 5:30 departure to round Cape Caution. Rain and cold (49F)for two days, but diesel heater keeps us warm. Today’s destination is Pruth Bay on Calvert Island ( Hakai Institute, Calvert Island)
