Happy surprise

We explored harbors and inlets on Orcas (Rosario, Westsound, White Beach, Deer Harbor) for four days and happily found college friend Becky and husband at their family estate on the island, complete with sweeping lawn, dock and mooring ball. We learned a new way to secure the vessel, walked the property, barbecued salmon, laughed and caught up on 30+ years. Mahalo for the parting gift of Anahola Granola!

Cruising Pacific Northwest waters is different from boating in southern California, where, once underway, the ocean journey seemed predictable, with time to relax, enjoy sea life, and each of us having time for a shower or a nap. Up here we are often at the helm together, on the lookout for logs and bull kelp that can foul props. The occasional Mayday call for a vessel run aground reminds us to stay mindful of tides and constantly study charts.
